DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology) registration is mandatory for all commercial SMS senders in India as per TRAI regulations effective March 2021. Transactional SMS must be sent via the transactional route — which exempts messages from DND filters — but only after entity, sender ID, and template registration are complete.
TRAI uses the DLT blockchain platform to verify that every commercial message sender is a legitimate business. Every template must declare its variables and be approved by the telecom operator before use. Unapproved or mismatched templates are scrubbed at the operator level — meaning your message never reaches the recipient.
