Meta Business Verification is the process of proving to Meta that your business is a real, registered legal entity — required for WhatsApp Business API access, running large-scale Facebook and Instagram ads, and applying for WhatsApp Green Tick verification. In India, Meta accepts GST certificate, Certificate of Incorporation, or Shops and Establishment Certificate. Verification takes 1 to 3 business days. Get Click Media guides Indian businesses through the entire Meta verification process.
Meta Business Verification is the single most important step in the WhatsApp Business API onboarding process. Without it, you cannot access the full WhatsApp Business Platform. It is also required for running large Meta ad spends and accessing Meta's advanced features across Facebook and Instagram.
For Indian businesses, Meta verification can seem confusing — the portal is not always India-optimised and the document requirements are not always clearly explained. This guide covers exactly what to do, document by document, step by step.
Why Meta Business Verification Is Required
- WhatsApp Business API: mandatory — without verification, cannot create WABA or send API messages
- WhatsApp Green Tick: mandatory prerequisite — cannot apply for Green Tick without verified Meta BM
- Facebook and Instagram ad spending limits: verified businesses get higher ad spend limits
- Meta Commerce Manager: required for creating product catalogs and shopping features
- Brand protection: verification prevents impersonation — only the verified business controls the assets
Documents Accepted for Meta Business Verification in India
| Document type | Accepted for | Best for | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| GST Registration Certificate | All business types | Fastest processing in India | GST number visible. Business name must match Meta BM exactly |
| Certificate of Incorporation | Private Limited, LLP, Section 8 company | Most official — highest trust signal | ROC-issued document. Company name must match Meta BM exactly |
| MSME Udyam Registration | MSMEs and small businesses | Good alternative if no GST | Udyam number and business name must be visible |

Recommendation for Indian businesses: Use your GST Registration Certificate — it is the most universally accepted document for Meta Business Verification in India and typically has the fastest review time. Ensure the legal business name on the GST certificate exactly matches the name you entered in Meta Business Manager.
Meta Business Verification — Step by Step
1. Open Meta Business Manager Security Centre
Go to business.facebook.com. Navigate to Settings > Security Centre (gear icon, bottom left menu). Locate the Business Verification section. If your business is already verified, the status shows as Verified. If not, click Start Verification.
You need to be an admin of the Meta Business Manager to submit verification.
2. Enter Business Details
Confirm your business legal name (must match your verification document exactly), business phone number (must be reachable for OTP), and business website URL. Meta checks that your website is live and clearly associated with the business name you entered.
If there is a name mismatch between what you entered and your document, update the Meta BM name first — go to Settings > Business Info > Legal Business Name.
3. Select and Upload Verification Document
Select India from the country dropdown. Choose your document type from the list. Upload a clear, legible PDF or high-resolution image. The document must be current (not expired), must show your exact business legal name, and must be an official government-issued document.
Avoid: cropped documents, low-resolution scans, documents with a name different from Meta BM. Get Click Media reviews your document before submission to catch issues in advance.
4. Verify Business Phone Number
Meta sends a 6-digit OTP to the business phone number you entered. Enter the OTP within the time limit. This step confirms you control the phone number associated with your business. The phone used here does not have to be the WhatsApp number — it is your business contact number.
If OTP is not received via SMS, click Request Voice Call — Meta will call the number and read the OTP.
5. Submit and Track Status
Submit the verification request. You receive a confirmation email. Meta reviews within 1 to 3 business days. Status updates appear in the Security Centre. Get Click Media monitors your verification status and follows up with Meta support if there is no update after 3 business days.
If rejected: Meta provides a reason code. Most common India rejections: name mismatch, document quality, website not clearly showing business identity. GCM handles resubmissions.
Common Meta Business Verification Issues in India
| Issue | Cause | Resolution |
|---|---|---|
| Name mismatch rejection | Business name in Meta BM does not exactly match legal name on document | Update Meta BM legal name to match document OR use a document that matches the current Meta BM name |
| Document quality rejection | Blurry scan or low-resolution image | Re-scan at 300 DPI minimum. Ensure all text is clearly legible. Use PDF format when possible |
| Website not accepted | Website does not clearly display the business name or is under construction | Add your full legal business name prominently on the website homepage. Ensure SSL certificate is valid |
| OTP not received | Business number is a landline that cannot receive SMS | Request voice call OTP instead of SMS. Or use a mobile number for this step |
| Verification stuck in review | Meta review taking longer than 3 business days | Contact Meta Business Support. GCM has a direct escalation path for verification delays for our clients |
